BCCTV ("we", "us") is a Canadian Black-owned media platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws (including Quebec's Law 25). It covers viewers, talent applicants, talent profiles, and people who book talent through BCCTV.
1. Information we collect
- Account data: email, password (hashed), authentication identifiers.
- Talent profile data: stage name, legal name (where provided), category, city, biography, photo, social/website links, date of birth (where required), guardian information for minors.
- Media: photos and videos you upload or link to.
- Booking & contact data: requester name, email, phone, event details, messages.
- Reviews: ratings, comments and the display name you choose.
- Technical data: minimal logs required to operate the service (IP address, browser, timestamps). We do not currently use analytics or advertising trackers.
2. How we use it
- To create and operate your account, talent profile and bookings.
- To send in-app notifications such as booking reminders.
- To moderate content and prevent abuse.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Consent
We rely on your express consent for the following separate purposes. You can change any of these at any time from your Account & Privacy Settings:
- Public talent profile — listing your name, photo and media on BCCTV.
- Marketing emails — newsletters and platform updates.
- Promotional / social media use — featuring your profile or media on BCCTV social channels.
- AI-related processing — opt-in only. We do not use your photos, videos or other uploaded content to train AI models unless you explicitly opt in.
4. Minors and guardian consent
Talent under 18 must provide a guardian's name, email and recorded consent before their profile can be approved or made public. Guardians may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, which will result in the profile being unpublished and (on request) deleted.
5. Ownership of your media
You retain full ownership of photos and videos you upload. By submitting media you grant BCCTV a limited, revocable licence to host and display it on the platform for the purposes you have consented to. Revoking consent or deleting your account ends that licence.
6. Sharing & disclosure
We do not sell personal information. We share data only:
- with infrastructure providers strictly necessary to run the service (hosting, database, storage);
- where required by Canadian law, court order, or to protect safety; and
- with your consent (for example, sending a booking request to a talent).
7. Data hosting & cross-border transfers
BCCTV uses managed cloud infrastructure (database, storage, authentication) provided through Lovable Cloud. Depending on the region selected for this project, data may be processed and stored in data centres located in Canada, the United States, the European Union, or the Asia Pacific region. Where data leaves Canada it remains protected by contractual safeguards comparable to PIPEDA. The current production region is disclosed in Account & Privacy Settings. We are actively evaluating Canadian-region hosting.
8. Security
- HTTPS in transit and encryption at rest for stored data.
- Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms — we never store them in plain text.
- Row-level security policies restrict access to your data to you and authorised administrators.
- Role-based admin access; super-administrator actions are auditable.
- Regular automated cloud backups.
9. Your rights
You may, at any time:
- Access and correct your data from your Account & Privacy Settings.
- Withdraw any consent.
- Export a copy of your personal data ("Download my data").
- Delete your account and associated data ("Delete my account").
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
10. Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as required by law. Deleted accounts are removed from active systems immediately and from backups within standard backup-rotation cycles.
